Community Advisory: Beware of Debit and Credit Card Collection Scam

The Town would like to alert residents to a financial scam affecting communities in our area.
A recent incident involved a resident who received a fraudulent phone call claiming that their debit or credit card had been compromised. The caller stated that a courier would be sent to the resident's home to collect the card for destruction. Fortunately, the resident contacted their bank in time and was able to cancel their cards before any financial loss occurred.
Please remember:
- No legitimate bank, credit card company, or financial institution will send someone to your home to collect a debit or credit card.
- Law enforcement agencies will never request that you surrender your bank cards in this manner.
- Never provide personal, banking, or account information over the phone unless you initiated the call using a trusted phone number.
- If you receive a suspicious call, hang up immediately and contact your bank or card issuer using the number on the back of your card or through their official website.
If you believe you may have been targeted by a scam, contact your financial institution right away and report the incident to local law enforcement.
